Psychological Testing Lynchburg
Looking for a psychological evaluation in Lynchburg? We provide psychological testing for ADD/ADHD, autism, and learning disabilities in reading, writing, and math (i.e. dyslexia, dysgraphia, and dyscalculia). Now, unfortunately, we don’t have a physical office in Lynchburg. But, we are close by. We have offices in Charlottesville, Richmond, and Harrisonburg, and the process is probably more convenient than you’d think. And less driving than you’d think.
Because lately we’ve had more and more clients from Lynchburg City, Amherst, Bedford, and Campbell Counties. It’s still a drive to one of our offices, but the good news is that with most evaluations, only one or two meetings need to be in-person. That means that two or more can be remote. That means less driving and schedule shuffling for you.

Testing for ADD/ADHD, Autism, Dyslexia, Dysgraphia, and more
So, what is a psychological or psycho-educational evaluation? Simply put, it’s listening to our clients and their story, helping them specify their goals, and take concrete steps forward. We work with a range of clients: kids, teens, and adults, and our clients come to us with a variety of questions. Some parents want to understand why their elementary school student gets so frustrated with math. Other parents wonder why their child reads so slow and why they hate it so much. Some college students wonder why now is the first real time their grades have tanked and their struggling to stay afloat. And some adults (younger and older) wonder why social relationships are so hard and if it’s possible–after all these years–that they have autism. Sometimes, it’s just because an organization has communicated that you need updated testing for accommodations. Whatever the reason, we want to listen to your story and help you navigate the next steps.
Why choose a school psychologist?
As school psychologists, we specialize in helping students and families not only understand why they may be struggling but also helping them to create a comprehensive plan for success moving forward. In the field of psychological testing, the sad truth is that many psychologists write reports that are full of jargon, difficult to read and understand, and don’t provide recommendations that are specific, reasonable, or even appropriate in the school setting. Our goal is simple: to fully understand our client no matter diagnosis, and to equip them with the understanding and knowledge they need to move forward. And to move forward in whatever place they find themselves in, whether it’s a K-12 school, college, grad school, or even the workplace or just their family. Former client & mom
We recently went through Wesley Shelley, Anna Weaver, to have our child tested for being on the spectrum and having anxiety. Anna met with us as parents first, followed by our child. During both sessions, she made us feel completely comfortable as we maneuvered through the questions, some of them emotionally difficult. Anna made our child feel affirmed in the struggles and feelings, so our child’s answers were sincere. The responses given by Anna were balanced between affirmation and hope. Following the diagnosis, our child has been through months of counseling with Anna that have provided significant understanding, clarity, and tools to move forward. We were looking for ways to understand how our child processes, followed by tools to move forward. All these expectations were met. Understanding the spectrum can be scary and intimidating, but working with this group has made this process manageable and hopeful. I highly recommend anyone with anxiety and autism (and more) to seek out the services of this group. They were also timely and responsive through the process.

Costs and insurance for psychological testing Lynchburg
Psychological assessments are investments. One-day evaluations can be four hours of face-to-face time, two day evaluations can be eight or more. For most, we add interviews with parents, teachers, and/or loved ones. Then, we sift through all the data, write a report that’s clear and thorough, and we sit down to review results and answer any and every question you might have. It’s a lot. It’s totally true that you’d be able to find a practice that offers evaluations for less money. It’s also true that you’d be able to find a practice charging more. Our goal is to provide excellent service while keeping our fees reasonable–like you, we have bills to pay and families to support.
We are a self-pay practice. What does this mean? We are out-of-network and do not accept insurance. So, you pay us, and then you seek reimbursement from your insurance company. But know this, we do try to be flexible and are happy to offer payment plans. Additionally, we’re happy to accept HSA and FSA cards. For more specific details, check out our fees page.
