Psychological Testing NOVA
Looking for psychological testing in NOVA? Our psychologists provide evaluations for autism, ADD/ADHD, and learning disabilities in reading, writing, and math (i.e. dyslexia, dysgraphia, and dyscalculia). Lately more and more of our clients are from NOVA (Fairfax, Prince William, Loudon, etc.)–our prices and wait are reasonable, and we place a premium on being comprehensive. Psychological testing is an investment, sometimes literally completed once in a lifetime, so it’s important for us to take our time, not leave any stone un-turned, and do it right.
We have offices in Richmond, Charlottesville, and Harrisonburg, Virginia, all evaluations include at least one in-person meeting, but the others can be completed remotely through Google Meet. Doable, right?
Testing for ADD/ADHD, Autism, Dyslexia, Dysgraphia, and more
So, what is a psychological evaluation? Simply put, it’s listening to our clients and their story, helping them articulate goals, and walk alongside them to make tangible steps forward. There are rarely magic bullets in our field, but what we promise our clients is this: thorough understanding. Yes, our evaluations by nature include diagnoses, but honestly diagnoses are the bottom rung of the ladder. Much more important to us is understanding. After all, we’ve worked with hundreds of clients with ADHD, hundreds of clients with autism, and hundreds of clients with learning disabilities. And the curious thing: they’re all different! Although there are common features of their stories, common struggles, there is no such thing as a universal solution.
Overall, we work with a wide range of clients: kids, teens, and adults, and our clients come to us with a number of different questions. For instance, maybe their middle school student can’t get through math homework without tears. Or maybe freshman year of college has been overwhelming, and now a student finds themselves overwhelmed and drowning in work. Or maybe it’s a 40-year-old who has this nagging question, “Could I be on the spectrum?” Whatever your reason, we want to listen to your story and help you navigate next steps.
Why choose a school psychologist like us?
As school psychologists, we specialize in helping kids, teens, and adults. Our job is to not only understand why our clients may be struggling but also helping them to create a comprehensive plan for success moving forward. In the field of psychological assessment, the unfortunate truth is that many psychologists write reports that are difficult to understand with recommendations that aren’t specific, reasonable, or even appropriate. Our goal is simple: to truly understand our client regardless of a diagnosis, and to equip them with the understanding and knowledge they need to move forward within the necessary systems, whether that’s the school system, the medical system, or even the workplace. Former client & mom
I wanted to share how much of a positive impact this has made on our family. Our child is thriving with enthusiasm and a new found joy for learning. We reached out for help because we needed guidance on how to help our child overcome a mysterious overwhelming wall stopping the learning process. The wall caused avoidance, shutting down, embarrassment even tears. Education should be joyful. We are parents, not professionals educators. If we had to demolish an actual wall, we would need a professional. Wesley Shelley & his colleague Anna analyzed, removed and created a beautiful path were there once was a wall.
Costs and insurance for psychological testing NOVA
Psychological evaluations are investments. Some are literally eight or more hours of face-to-face time. Add to that interviews with parents, teachers, a friend or spouse, wading through all the data, writing the report, and taking time to review results with you—it’s a lot. I’m sure that you’d be able to find a practice that offers evaluations for less money. I’m also sure that you’d be able to find a practice charging more. One of our goals is to provide excellent service while keeping our fees reasonable–like you, we have bills to pay and families to support.
We are an out-of-network provider, so we do not accept insurance. Our services are considered self-pay. With this said, we do try to be flexible and offer payment plans. Plus, we gladly accept HSA and FSA cards. For more specific details, check out our fees page.
