Psychological Testing Richmond

Over the years we’ve helped many kids, teens, and adults.  Like a boy who hated writing but had wonderful ideas to share, like a girl who was bright and conscientious but who worked so slow she didn’t really have time to be a kid, and like a teenage boy who reflected on last school year.  “I just gave up,” he said, “I guess I was being lazy.”  Turns out that “laziness” was an oversimplification.  Closer to the truth was that his ADHD fueled poor planning, procrastination, and—with work piled up—it simply became overwhelming to even think about tackling it all.

Individuals and families come to us with different stories.  Our goal, to listen to the story and to help craft the next chapters.  Because embedded in these stories are strength and hope—sometimes obvious, other times buried or subtle.  So, what’s your story?  We’d be happy to join you in next steps.

Evaluation Goals

People seek psychological evaluations for different reasons.  For many, it’s knowledge and understanding to best support a child.  Maybe a child whose worries have intensified and are leaving a path of heartache.  Or a teen who is defensive and whose brain sees a fight even when there’s none around.  For others, it may be seeking accommodations at school or work, like extra time, recording lectures, or using software to help write.  And there are some who are considering medication and want a thorough evaluation and diagnosis.  Regardless of your reason, we’re here to listen.  And help.

Testing for ADHD, Dyslexia, Dysgraphia, and more

In Richmond, we provide a range of psychological evaluations for children, teens, and adults.  What kinds of evaluations?  Assessments for dyslexia, dysgraphia, and dyscalculia (learning disabilities in reading, writing, and math).  We also provide evaluations for ADD, ADHD, and autism.  And, because many of our clients also struggle with anxiety, depression, or similar, we can help sort out how these impact day-to-day functioning.

Why choose us for psychological testing?

We’ve worked with enough families and listened to enough stories to know this: not all evaluations are equal.  Our goal is simple: to provide a thorough evaluation that doesn’t miss anything, to communicate findings in a clear way, to offer a clear path forward, and—perhaps most importantly—to make the process personal for you.  As a small business, we’ve grown by doing just this, and we will continue to keep our standards super-high.  That’s why every staff who works with us isn’t just hired but also nurtured and trained.  That’s why every staff who works with us believes in our core mission.  And that’s why a good portion of our clients are direct referrals from previous clients.  They know the quality of our work.

Mom & Special Education teacher

“I sought out Wes’ services during my son’s senior year of high school when I was looking to obtain updated testing for accommodations as he transitioned to college.  Throughout my 20+ year career as a special education teacher, transition specialist, and reading specialist, I have worked with many wonderful school psychologists and reviewed numerous testing reports. However, after reading Wes’ testing report for my son, I was more than impressed and simply blown away by his work. His report was like no other I had ever read.  Furthermore, he was able to hone in and truly understand the way my child learns.  Most importantly, Wes met with my son to review the testing in a manner that enabled him to confidently and independently advocate his learning needs to his college advisors and professors.  My son and I are grateful for Wes’ professional help and I truly wish I would have found Wes earlier in my son’s academic career.”

Costs and insurance for psychological testing in Richmond

Psychological evaluations are investments.  Some are literally eight or more hours of face-to-face time.  Add to that interviews with parents, teachers, wading through all the data, writing the report, and taking time to review results with you—it’s a lot.  I’m sure that you’d be able to find a practice that offers evaluations for less money.  I’m also sure that you’d be able to find a practice charging more.  One of our goals is to provide excellent service while keeping our fees reasonable–like you, we have bills to pay and families to support.

We are an out-of-network provider, so we do not accept insurance.  Our services are considered self-pay.  With this said, we do try to be flexible and offer payment plans.  Plus, we gladly accept HSA and FSA cards.  For more specific details, check out our fees page.
