OVERVIEW

Wesley Shelley & Associates is seeking school psychologists to join our private practice team.  We’re seeking professionals who are leaders in their field.  Who possess excellent relationships with school staff, students, and parents.  Who hold a strong desire to grow and learn, expectations that are super-high, and a deep passion for our work.

We are seeking psychologists who have experience working in public schools, but know that private practice is incredibly different.  The quality of our work, our name, and our reputation are all on the line–every paragraph of every evaluation.  Every interaction with parents and students.  Because of this, we have super-high standards in our work, we have super-high standards in who we interview, and we have super-high standards in who we eventually invite to join our team.  In other words, the application process isn’t quick or easy.  We will likely only invite a handful to interview, we will talk with references, and –for those who we do interview–we will likely ask you to complete additional exercises as part of our decision-making process.

The apprenticeship focuses primarily on growing your skills in assessments and report-writing but will also touch on counseling.  As an apprentice, you will complete approximately one private practice evaluation per month and under my direct supervision.  You will complete testing at one of our office locations (Charlottesville or Harrisonburg), these will typically occur on Saturdays, and we will collaborate every step of the way.

ADDITIONAL DETAILS

The apprenticeship program is approximately 15 months.  The first three months is a trial period.  If you continue past this, you will be able to formally apply for residency through the Virginia Board of Psychology, with me as your supervisor.  Residency lasts twelve months.

COMPENSATION

Pay is 30% of all income for assessments you complete.  In the end, you receive supervision towards your private practice license, and you get paid for it.

TIMELINE

We’re hoping to sift through applications in the next few months and interview in June or July.  After the interview and before we make a decision, we will likely ask you to complete additional writing exercises, assessments, and/or inventories.

TO APPLY, PLEASE SEND US:

Resume, cover letter, letter of reference from a professional who has worked closely with you over the past two years, one redacted LD report, and one redacted OHI or ED report.  You can send either by fax (434.321.1940) or email (wesley@wesleyshelley.com).
